Oxygen Treatments Now Available At Ascend Float Spa
Recreational oxygen treatments are one of many treatments available in the world of alternative medicine. You can generally find them available at oxygen bars and spas. Although oxygen bars and treatments are relatively uncommon in some parts of the country; using oxygen as an alternative medicine isn’t a new trend. It’s been around since the early 90’s and has been slowly increasing in popularity. Oxygen treatments vary by location, and some oxygen treatments even include different flavors. Treatments can be only a few minutes up to 20 minutes. If you decide to try an oxygen treatment, it’s important to ask all the details of your treatment before beginning.
Keep in mind that a recreational oxygen treatment is much different than the oxygen that’s prescribed by a doctor to people with breathing and lung disorders. This form is purely recreational and does not require a prescription although you should always consult with your doctor first.
What Medical Benefits Are There?
Cortisol is an important hormone produced by the adrenal glands. When it is elevated for prolonged periods it can lead to depression, high blood sugar, high blood pressure, reduced immune system activity and increased fat storage in the body. Some ways you may recognize how they affect your body is through your fight or flight response, increased immune activity during times of need and the ability/inability to relax. Although increased cortisol levels are good in your times of need, they’re harmful when it is prolonged for large periods of time. Luckily, many have found some relief through floating.
Oxygen bar and treatment fans say they experience benefits like reducing stress, increasing energy, increasing alertness, aiding in alleviating sinus problems, aiding in alleviating the symptoms from allergies, easing the effects of hangovers and headaches. Some fans go as far as to boast that oxygen therapy has increased their endurance during exercise and helped them cover more quickly from rigorous physical activity. However, the medical benefits from recreational oxygen treatments are purely anecdotal and relatively unknown.
The naysayers point out that for a healthy person, there’s really no reason to try or expect any life alternating benefits from oxygen treatments. It is believed that oxygen treatments may just have a placebo effect. Once our bodies take in enough oxygen, you can’t magically make your red blood cells hold onto anymore of it. However, it is speculated that those that do vigorous exercise on an athlete level may feel better after doing an oxygen treatment following strenuous exercise. That it may in fact help their recovery at the very least in that moment. This too is anecdotal evidence and hasn’t been proven by any long term studies yet.
At this time there are no long term studies proving any particular benefit of recreational use of oxygen treatments. Oxygen treatments aren’t for everybody, just like any other alternative or holistic treatment. For the vast majority of people, trying an oxygen treatment shouldn’t cause you any harm. However, if you suffer from respiratory diseases such as asthma or emphysema, oxygen treatments may not be for you. If you have questions if it’s right for you, it’s recommended that you ask your doctor before trying it out.
